Gotta be a major salary drain.
If they're actually doing no real work then I'm doubtful many of them could truly compete in the marketplace.. so cutting the fat doesn't need to have blowback.
Additionally, I wonder if this is A16Z responding to the recent rule change for Non-compete? If Google does get rid of a significant portion of their White Collar workers, then smaller A16Z bets are able to pick up some institutional knowledge on the open market, at relatively cheaper prices (vis a vis increased supply)
