Great article, but I didn't understand what healthy cognitive dissonance is.

Their reporting also reveals the tangled complexity of human affairs requires a healthy amount of cognitive dissonance.

I think it means that to accept the mainstream narrative causes you to hold inconsistent beliefs that creates inner tension. Obvious example- Russia invading Crimea-bad. Israel invading Gaza- good. The word healthy in this context means a substantial amount, not beneficial.
