I am confused why this seems to only happen now to you?

Afaict, this must have been broken for everyone who enabled this setting for a while. But the image loads fine after the worker processed it and there are imgproxy URLs available so maybe it stayed below the radar until now because of this.

Yea, I keep mine running 24x7. I like the stability and consistency of FPPS, but I prefer PPLNS for the principle of the matter.

I used to earn more before switching to FPPS. Then again, when I turned miner on for the heat, I often kept it running until block was mined.

I copy/pasted this chart from my BraiinsPool dashboard. I've been mining with roughly the same amount of hash rate for the entire duration shown in the chart.

All of the random spikes indicate the PPLNS mining rewards strategy, while the stable line indicates the FPPS strategy. It becomes obvious when this transition occurred.

Also, you can see when the most recent halving occurred, with the bonus spike on the first day or so after the halving when the fees went through the roof for a short period.

PS: Yes, I omitted the Y-Axis, so I don't fully share my total mining rewards ;)
