The great podcast of Everything Everywhere Daily did a brief on how Canadian Football got started. Very interesting facts here. One thing I didn’t know is that they expanded into the USA and how the grey cup was actually kept by the champion. One year the team (I think from Montreal?) didn’t give up the cup because they weren’t beat on the field.
Other cool facts
-The Canadian football field is much bigger than the NFL field
-The CFL puts a quota on American born players to allow roster spots for Canadians
-They use 12 players on the field vs 11 the NFL uses thus no need for Tight ends
Cool pod give it a listen if you have time
