AIUI, the scam works by scammers sending the victim a small amount "from" an address that has been brute-forced to look like some other address that the victim intends to send their money to.
Reading the explanation, I was surprised how that would work, as normally you shouldn't even see a "from" address on incoming payments in any Bitcoin wallet software, because there really is no "from" address in Bitcoin.
But apparently this was with some kind of "wrapped BTC" on Ethereum, where I'm guessing this scam works better.
