I don't know if you all are similar, but I don't have particularly fixed views towards NBA franchises. I like certain types of basketball and over the course of the season I come to appreciate certain teams more than others.
A lot of my attitude changes are subconscious and go unnoticed for long periods of time. During this first round, I was somewhat surprised to catch myself rooting for the Clippers over the Mavs and it's not because I just love the Clippers.
Coming into this season, I thought the Celtics had the best constructed roster in recent memory and I'm a big fan of their role guys. That said, I always find myself rooting for the other team. Something about Tatum and Brown is just really off-putting to me.
Do you ever find yourself rooting for or against teams that you didn't realize you had any particular feelings for?
I feel the same towards the Celtics, but I really enjoy watching the Mavs and like their team. I do find myself rooting against Embiid's 76ers a lot though, and I was quite happy to seem them eliminated by the Knicks last night.
Upon thinking more after reading your post, I think the dislike stems from the player(s), not from the team; at least that is the case for myself. In the case of the 76ers, I think I just don't like Embiid, period. The way he carries himself, the way he speaks about things, complains about thing, and the way he cried after the Raps eliminated them in the 2019 playoffs. Maybe he is a great and likeable guy, but the public persona that he put on is one that I dislike; and as such, I tend to root against his team along with him (maybe the correct order should be root against him along with his team).
As for the Celtics, I share the same feeling with you that there is something off with JT and JB, especially JB. As such, I find myself rooting against the Celtics because of their star players.

I've also come to really dislike Embiid, but I like a lot of the other guys he plays with. I feel similarly about KAT and the Timberwolves. I'd like the team a lot if they get rid of their star player (thankfully Ant took that team away from KAT).

It's definitely Ant's team now.

I don't dislike the Mavs but I am rooting for the Clips. Definitely not fond of the Celtics.
reply
I'm not even sure what it is about the Mavs. I just realized that I usually root for whoever they're playing against.
reply
Were you rooting for the Mavs when they made their title run with Dirk?
Maybe Dirk was just a lot more likeable than Luka. Something about Luka irritates me, similar to the way Lebron irritates me. Both incredible players but hard to root for unless you are a fan of their teams.
reply
I wasn't really following basketball back then, but I certainly would have been rooting for Dirk over Kobe.

Too busy being an intellectual back then?
Good thing Bitcoin turned you into a pleb like the rest of us or I would have no one to talk to. Haha.

Too busy being an intellectual back then?
Probably just too poor to afford a TV, but maybe those two things are related.
reply
You probably read a lot of books so a win in the end. TVs are overrated.
I probably watch too much sports on tv now.

More reading than these days, but more video games than reading back then
Kevin Garnett with the Mavs... :D
