Gaming rewards will be the end of SN. Mark my words.
What's gaming, in this case? I must have missed something.

Gaming rewards will be the end of SN
I've been thinking the same thing... Haven't said it, though.
Mark my words.
Thusly (book)marked. :)

This is a known issue. It will be fixed if it starts becoming a problem.

Honest opinion- why wait til something is a problem. But hey, I dunno what koob and the guys are up to.
reply
They aren't waiting. We've talked about it #473181 and they're actively thinking through remedies.
The goal is to incentivize desired behaviors. That way "gaming" the rewards is the same as using SN productively.
One thing that's already different from prior to the MSMs, is that we don't get a detailed summary of how we earned our rewards. That garbles the signal and makes gaming the algorithm more difficult.

Honestly what would be an easy fix. Is giving zero extra rewards for getting zapped. It would incentivize people to only zap good content, and make good content. Correct me if I’m wrong?
reply
I must be misunderstanding something. If you remove the rewards for being zapped, how do you calculate the rewards afterward?

Thanks for helping to clarify.
reply
They already do this. The reward for zapping, is for zapping "good" content and they have a formula for determining which posts and comments are "good".
reply
That's exactly how I feel.
Last year, they played around with different rewards systems and I really liked when they were only rewarding zaps.
For whatever reasons, @k00b preferred this "balanced" approach.

Well, you made me feel better about my preconceptions that’s for sure. Thanks.
