I had a lot of fun with Modern Emerald - I beat the game in it. I really like the improvements to the experience, the fact that you can catch all pokemons, have 2 fast actions for surf/bike/fly mapped to buttons, etc.
The one thing I wish I'd set in the beginning is a higher chance of Shiny... I left it default and never caught any shiny :D
