Germany continues its trend of escalating social spending, shattering records despite maintaining a low unemployment rate. The 2024 budget outlines a staggering €175.7 billion allocation for the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, representing a significant 37% of the total federal budget.
This marks a substantial increase from 2021, where the share stood at 29%. Over the span of just five years, social expenditure has surged by €32 billion, and when compared to 2012, the surge is even more remarkable, reaching approximately €50 billion.
