pull down to refresh

The other day, I watched Quentin Tarantino's film 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.' While I wouldn't call myself a hardcore fan of Tarantino, I have seen a few of his films such as 'Kill Bill,' 'Django Unchained,' and 'The Hateful Eight.' What I appreciate about his films is that they go beyond merely satisfying my endorphins and dopamine; they also provoke thought during and after the movie. Recently, novels like 'Anthem' by Ayn Rand and 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley have had a similar effect, prompting contemplation and questioning, ultimately expanding my consciousness. Although I don't read fiction often, I believe it can be an effective tool for breaking out of one's matrix at times. However, it's worth noting that many works of fiction also serve to keep you confined within the matrix as well.
Any films or books that have had a similar effect on you? And any recommendations?
you gotta see the early classics, 'Reservoir Dogs,' and of course 'Pulp Fiction,' which gets better with age.
For books, 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,' 'The Way of the Peaceful Warrior,' and I dabbled in Carlos CastaƱeda and LSD in my late 20s. Opened my mind the fuck up!

If you're looking for a great, thought-provoking classic of the modern literary age, I can't recommend "Neuromancer" enough. The whole trilogy is excellent.

"There will be blood" is one of my favorite movies. It's slow but super intense. And there is a lot of content there. I am finding that the older I get, the harder it is for me to get quick dopamine hits. Which is nice. I really am needing something thoughtful that I feel helps me expand in order to engage. It's less of entertainment and more about connecting or learning. Thanks for the post.
