I'm not 100% sure of how sparrow handles the technicalities behind this, but the coordinator is/was centralized, means that every wallet that makes use of whirlpool (samourai, sparrow, keeper etc) connected to the same coordinator, which is now compromised
Sparrow has removed whirlpool in the latest release

So this guide isn't going to work then, is it?
Will we see other coordinators pop up eventually?

It will work, you can still recover funds, you just can't start mixing them.
