I think lots of people here are pro-zap in general due to both their approach to VFV and because of the rewards, but part of the point of the algorithm is to build trust. So if you zap everything, SN has no way to note users whose posts you like more and surface them on the front page, and it also means that your zaps don't benefit posts you like as much as if you only zapped content you liked.
Yeah, I was going to say this as well. What might help the community more as a whole if you want to be generous is to just zap heavier on the posts you find beneficial. Part of why I've grown to use SN so much is because I know zaps (and downzaps, which are helpful too!) exist and therefor most of the stuff on top of the "hot" tab is there for a reason other than a computer thinks I like some partisan set of words.
