We have a vegetable garden every year. Tomatoes, cucumbers and pole beans are simple to grow. Almost idiot proof. I have more trouble with zucchini. Our region gets these borers that wipe out the whole crop.
I just got my herbs and tomatoes planted yesterday. They may be idiot proof, but they are not deer proof.
