One of the most disturbing things in college was how many of classmates didn’t want to be computer scientists, but we’re going through the motions anyway.
Look carefully at how they spend their time at work and outside of work, because this is also almost certainly how your life will look.
I wonder how true this is. It’s maybe the closet we can get to the living a job without doing it, but I don’t imagine most mailmen spend their weekends the same way even if their weekends are more similar than not.
My career advice usually falls within the framework of doing the absolute minimum amount of work necessary to prevent starvation, and then doing something that’s not about money, completely outside of supporting structures, and not simply a matter of “consuming experience” with the remaining available time.
