There are lots of homes that actually have profitable solar potential, so I expect this trend to continue.
Lots of states and local jurisdictions are also working on their regulations to make it easier to sell your energy onto the grid.
yup, interestingly the storage component is doing far better than the solar component right now.
if their solar business begins to grow too, look out!

I believe they're still on their first generation solar roof. I know people are reluctant to install such an expensive and durable technology when there's likely to be an improvement in the near future.

the reveal event for the solar roof was in 2016, so i worry that there is some deeper problem with the technology with the solar roof specifically

Maybe. Supposedly, they're reasonably comparable economically to a new roof + solar panels, so there may just not have been enough development to warrant a new product yet.
I've heard the biggest knock on the Tesla Roof is just dealing with the company to get it installed.
