I mean 25 years is not that bad. In my country you get that much for murder. Those 100+ year sentences are just ridiculous IMO, then the convicts are ok whatever I'm gonna die in prison. It's much worse if you still have hope to eventually come out.
The 100-year sentences most of the time have parole after a certain point. Its the life without parole ones that doom ya. US prisons though are pretty rough esp when you are in even medium security. He will have to deal with gangs, choosing a side, etc. he wont be getting special treatment like he would have gotten in a low security.
