This fort holds a vast history with so many inspiring royal tales. IMO, no fort would ever match the greatness of this one. If you ever listened the name of Maharana Pratap, you can imagine. His sword was around 70 kg, his armour was more than 100kg. If you want to realise its greatness, I suggest you read this..
When I saw it in the 1970s it was relaxed, and it was easy to stand right in front of it. I went back in 2007 and the room was packed. I couldn't get near it. I had my six year old daughter on my shoulders. A guard came over to me and motioned to give her my daughter. I don't speak French. I was reluctant. She kept insisting, pointing to the Mona Lisa. I let her take my daughter's hand. She brought her to the front, in a roped off area right in front of the painting. The section was just for kids.
Any living creature is better art than any piece of art I've seen in person. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but by contrast, being moved by art usually requires more effort than I'd like even if I understand its craftsmanship and appreciate its purpose.
Been to Vienna a few times. There are many masterpieces at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, but this one lives rent free in my mind. Breugel's Tower of Babel.
An ancient chinese "splattered"-ink paiting I saw 2011 in the Shanghai Museum. These paintings obviously depict bamboo, although the written text on them talk about the landscape in the background. There are usually red stamps of the artist littered over the canvas...
But this is all (intentional) distraction. When you see such a painting in the dim lit room from a reasonable distance and your eyes focus on the details of the background or the writing, the bamboo leaves start to move. And not in a random manner, like in an optical illusion, but like as if there is a common pattern. It´s the breeze!
The artist managed to create a painting of the invisible wind.
I knew this is a masterpiece within the first moment of seeing it, but it took me several months contemplating to figure out why.
Unfortunately I don´t know the artist anymore. Is it Xu Wei (1521–1593) or maybe Zheng Xie (1693-1765)?
I'm a big fan of the Sagrada Família architecture in Barcelona. But what I find even more fascinating is the fact that it's been under construction for centuries. 😂
My favorite piece of art is the “Girl with a pearl earring” which I managed to see with my own eyes at the Mauritshuis museum in Hague. The pearl is two perfect strokes of a brush. Magnificent!
