- The biggest change is probably the navigation updates:
- dedicated mobile navigation (eg bottom navbar, offcanvas)
- sticky minimal navigation bar so you navigate easily when you're deep in comment threads
- when you're logged out, you're visually "logged in" as anon
- Search UX:
- search defaults to searching all territories
- more intuitive search filters
- API keys were not hashed for storage when we first launched them. @WeAreAllSatoshi reported this immediately and only @ek's @hn bot has API keys phew. (via @ek)
- Discussion posts are now readable in a browser's Reader View that support it

There's lot of little issues I didn't catch. The decision tree with nav is huge and we're doing lots of new stuff.
The bottom bar is a nice solution because it is easier to reach, so improve the UX. But it's quite messy with 4 icons of different styles. I would harmonize the icons, replace the SN icon with a "home" icon, and put the post button centrally, doubling its width, to promote participation. I would also move the profile to the top right, near the wallet shortcut, because it should be an element with a low frequency access. Instead the go back icon can go to the left-bottom, so it is quicker to click. And finally we have on the top-left a place for the logo.

As I'm sure you understand (as a more skilled designer than me) I'm not sure if it achieves what we need it to given we have other pages with more navigation items.
For consistency, I would keep the exact same structure. The back and home icons are faded, because they are disabled.
I would also remove (everywhere) the price on the top bar, perhaps it is a bit too obvious; I think that on the homepage is sufficient. This space could be profitably used for the territories.

Another solution is to get rid of the back button (the OS back button/swipe should be enough) and use this space for the territories, with an icon that opens a full page menu. In this case the home should be moved to the left.

Only thing i'd change in your sketch would be the placement of the profile button + wallet balance: make those two things like they were in the old design, top right, with the wallet balance on the left, profile pic on the right.

My sketch is actually like the old design, isn't? But I agree that it is better to align the profile badge to the right. I would not add the pic, I don't think it is really useful (everyone knows himself) and I doubt there are a lot of users that use several accounts, and so need to spot easily which they are using.
I'd take the old one back any day, but your's sure is an improvement.
@k00b I think you'll have to add a little offset when navigating to an item from a notification. The list scrolls to the item position but now I have to scroll up a little bit more to see it

yes, the old one was quite good! the only thing I like about the new design maybe is the sticky header.
I got an error while trying to sign up with Nostr. The error was something like “plugin not found”.

I am a fan of the new layout. But that may be just because used to the twitter layout with nav buttons on the bottom.
It's closer to my thumb and fingers. I like that I don't have to go to the top of the phone as much.
The long bar at the top for the territory name isn't beautiful. I'm not sure if it's just a color thing and you could use something else to signal to me that I can tap that field.
Or maybe I just want (illogically) to see the top recent hot line above the territory.
Something else that used to happen to me with some frequency was that after I had written a post, I would tap the yellow post button at the top of the page rather than the orange post button at the bottom of the text entry box. Now at least they are close to each other and so I'm less likely to tap the yellow one.
Either way, I'm definitely digging this change. Great job!

The whole reason for the navigation update is to change that part to something better (that needs more room).

One thing I appreciate with the redesign is I am less likely to accidentally zap comments when swiping back to the territory from a thread.
I don't want to be rude and stomp on your guys work, but I absolutely dislike the general new layout for mobile.
It doesn't feel more "natural" or "cleaner" at all to me, more like i'm using SN upside-down, it's irritating.
Please make it possible to "toggle back" towards the "old" design for mobile.
If you can, try and tell me what's wrong with new layout. Boy do I know it's not easy, but if it's only that "I was used to the old design," then it suggests we only need to wait for you to get used to the new layout.
Maybe it's a bit short sighted, but to me, it looks like you took the navbar, mirrored it to some degree and decided to put it at the bottom of the layout, why?
What, in your opinion, are the advantages of this design against the former? I don't see any.
Again, i'm not trying to be a pain, but all it manages to achieve in my eyes is to confuse people, rather than creating a cleaner, more intuitive navigation of SN (on mobile, I only use mobile).
There certainly are things to be improved, but the layout and navigation certainly aren't on that list - at least not in this scope.
Edit: Also, the upper part of the layout looks a bit "lost" and empty, while the bottom part looks crowded and misplaced.
Maintaining both UI layouts over time is probably a large burden the team isn’t interested in doing.
Then I really hope that they'll return to the former design.

The top of the page on mobile now feels lonely 🥺, but otherwise I like that it's much easier for me to reach the actions when holding the phone with a single hand. I haven't tested desktop yet.
I know. It's an intermediate design. I'm mostly trying to unblock new territory features even if it appears I'm asserting some aesthetic preference.

It’s cool that the carousel in the top is now visible on mobile. I was used to it on desktop but missed it on mobile.
