A tool’s a tool. I agree with you that I would rather just memorize the words. Pretty great idea here though. Laser engrave the sheet and distribute it to your family. You’d be a fool to use a difficult pattern though unless you had a separate cipher

This seems like a good way to lose your seed phrase. Words are easier to refresh in your memory than patterns. Also, you could remember the pattern, but lose the random grid, and you're still screwed. With the words, you just have to remember the words. Keep it simple.
