Nope, you’re just tipping the poster.
The act of you tipping it means you “vote” for it to rank higher, but the amount you tip it does not affect ranking.

So it is like a way to identify parcels of land, but instead of land it can identify individual satoshis?

I think that's a pretty fair way to characterize it. It defines a simple algorithm for numbering satoshis and how they transfer across transactions. With it, you can find every satoshi in a currently unspent UTXO, and the address of that UTXO is the owner of the sat.
