I remember this book that I had it when I was young, 12-14 years old.
It was prohibited in communism. Totally.
I got it from underground market (people that were traveling abroad, bringing prohibited books and items).
If they catch you with such book, you go straight to jail, gulag. You and your family.
But first, if you are in school, they put you in front of all others and they have to spit on you and throw eggs. Total individual demolition.
I got lucky that I had a strong character and nothing could affect me of this crazy propaganda. But I suffered a lot those years.
I'm not surprised to hear that it was banned. I'm glad you were able to overcome the suffering you were put through.
It was required reading in my school (and probably lots of others, especially during the Cold War), but of course our teachers insisted on making sure we were told what the meaning was, instead of just getting to read it and discover it on our own.
