The owner who created it decided not to renew it. It's 100k/month or 3M/forever. It's not a profitable endeavour yet, so it makes sense that some territories come and go. However, if someone creates it again, it'll inherit all the old content from the ~news territory. At least, that's what I understood from a recent update.

What's the process to take over the ownership of an archived territory?
You go to https://stacker.news/territory and enter the name of the archived territory
Wouldn't have been removed, but not renewed by the owner. After a month someone else can pay the fee and bring it out of archive.
