Canadian bankruptcy filings are skyrocketing with nearly 800 bankruptcy filings in January 2024 alone.
The numbers keep getting worse. This comes after bankruptcy filings in 2023 jumped nearly 40% year-over-year.
Currently, the number of businesses filing for insolvency is at its highest in 13 years.
In January, small businesses faced deadlines to repay interest-free loans of ~$45,000 given during the pandemic.
Small businesses currently account for ~33% of Canada's GDP.
Is Canada bracing for a recession? If not, how can they turn the tide?
That is rough, more companies go up in smoke, means less jobs, means fewer people can service their debts and thats when I think governments will react, no one cares about small business, its all about big business or the consumer pain
In real terms I would argue yes.
