I have recently decided to go down the ASIC rabbit hole with a S9 miner but I am running into a weird scenario. Hopefully the SN community can help.
Current setup:
- Braiins OS+
- 1 board plugged in
- Performance set to ~200 watts
- Target temp 89 C
Miner will run great for a few hours. Fans RPM sits around 3%. At the "Low" power level unit is quiet and perfect to set on top of a desk.
The Problem: After awhile the Fan RPM will jump up to 100% for 30 seconds and then settle back down. If I look at the Temperature graph when this happens there is no data. The dark mode setting for the web interface to Braiins OS gets set back to light mode.
I hoping to have this miner to sit in an office but the 100% fan is to loud and distracting.
I have tried the other 2 boards and experience the same situation.
Once it starts having this issue it seems to keep happening ever ~10 minutes.
One hypothesis I have: The unit doesn't always get up to the target temperature because of the low wattage. Is there a minimum temperature need to run the miner?
All thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated. @AlexKaboomracks
Braiins takes a while to tune. If ambient temps change, it may either start retuning or change tuning profiles, hence what appears to be a restart.
There are Noctua fans you can buy for way too much on Amazon which are significantly quieter.
Thanks for the expert advice.
I think I will set the Target temperature lower and see if that keeps it from changing the tune.
I agree the Noctua fans are quieter but the stock fans are good enough for me if they stay under 10%.
How many tuning Iterations should one expect?
I am up to 25 Iterations at the moment
I'd let it run for at least 24 hours before thinking anything of it
Looks like block production is on track :)
I am mining in a pool. So it doesn't have anything to do with the a block being found.
I knew after I typed 10 minutes I should of said ~20 minutes. To avoid any confusion :)
