Rivalry Game (The Duel)
The heated rivalry between @blokchainB's Sabres and @siggy47's Islanders last night gave me an idea for a new type of post we can have on stacker sports. Rivalry games. (Sabres trounced the Islanders by the way)
Blok's initial post was #459756 and he followed up yesterday with this post #465000.
So here is the idea. If your team is scheduled to face another stacker's team in any of the 4 major sports you can challenge that stacker to a rivalry game duel. You create a post challenging them. If they accept we do a separate Stacker Sports post (which I will pin) pitting the two stackers (teams) against each other in which everyone can comment, pick a side, talk trash, post memes and whatever zaps the Stacker Sports Rivalry game post gets will go to the Stacker whose team wins the rivalry game.
It's preferred that it is stacker team vs stacker team but if there is a big game coming up that you want to take one side of and you want to see if there are any takers for other team we could do that as well. It would be fun if we could get one of these games per month.
Let me know what you think of the idea and any possible tweaks you would make.
Sats for all, GR
I recall someone saying they were a Broncos fan, but I haven't seen them around for a while. Otherwise, I don't see any potential duels for the Raiders this season.
Can the duels be player vs player? For instance, SGA vs Jokic is a good potential duel for me and @gnilma. The Nuggets aren't my team, but Jokic is my guy.
reply
I didn't touch on the player duels point. That could be really fun as well. Say when Nuggets play Thunder you take Jokic and gnilma takes SGA and whichever player gets the most points wins. I like that. Good addition.
reply
Points only? Way to stack the deck against the most well-rounded offensive talent of all-time.
Whatever the terms are, if Jokic puts up a 13/27/18 on 80% shooting, I expect to be declared the victor. I don't care if SGA does his 35/1/1 thing.
reply
Well if you issue the challenge I would think that you would set the terms of victory or at least propose them and then your challenger can agree or counter with their own terms. Is there an OKC/Denver game coming soon?
reply
Fair enough, it looks like they've already had all their matchups anyway. It'll have to wait for the postseason.
reply
That example alone is probably going to make it hard for the player vs player duel to happen. Often times, players differ in play style and position, so it's quite hard to gauge who is the clear winner, especially if both players played well. Probably easier to do this with games, as the winner is always clear.
But I guess like what GR suggested, the post creator can always set the terms and the opponent can accept or refuse or counter offer. Either way, this duel concept sounds like a lot of fun and I look forward to participate in something like this in the future. Will be even willing to put some sats where my mouth is.
reply
We could also have a push, if the outcome is in dispute.
My preferred terms would be something like "Jokic will outplay SGA". If we both agree that that's what happened, then you pay. If we both agree that that didn't happen, then I pay. Otherwise, no one pays.
It seems more satisfying to make the other person admit they lost, rather than have it be objectively determined by some metric. Of course there is the catch-all metric of "game score" if we want to be objective about it.
reply
This will be very subjective and biased, unless the difference in performance in clearly apparent. But I'm sure we can figure something out.

So you not only want to win their sats but also want humiliate them in the process. It's tough being your opponent man...
reply
Humiliation is the point of a duel. Sats are a bonus.
reply
Kudos to that! Love it!
Yes I also recall a Broncos fan lurking when we were doing the NFL pick 'ems but don't remember who it was and if they are still around. If the Raiders play a Thursday, Sunday or Monday night game, I am sure someone will take the other side and challenge you.
reply
The Heat and Raptors play two in a row next month. No one will think less of you if you decline the challenge.
reply
I am cheering for the Raptors to lose so they can keep their first round pick but in the spirit of competition I will happily take the challenge. I just won't be disappointed when I lose.
April 12? We can do that one unless something better comes to our attention between now and then.
reply
You can't really win a duel against a masochist.
reply
I just looked at the 49ers opponents for next season.
Jets- check Bills- check Lions- check Cowboys- check Vikings- check Packers- check
Only @Undisciplined gets a pass. Going to be a fun season.
reply
It’s on next season!!!
reply
We'll just have to save it for the Super Bowl
reply
Definitely. Minshew vs Purdy. Practically like Manning vs Brady
reply
It's going to be AOC vs Purdy. We're trading Minshew to the Jets whenever Rodgers either goes down with an injury or retires to serve as VP.
reply
I didn't know she played football but if football players can be politicians why can't politicians be football players. Oh you don't mean that AOC. You mean the Aidan O'Connell guy.
reply
We've got an opening in the QB room. If she can read a defense and move in the pocket, I say give her a shot.
reply
You guys are drafting a QB.
What do you think about what the Bears have done? Damn they are trying to stock their team up for Caleb Williams. I am not sold on Caleb Williams yet. We will see when he hits the big time.
reply
What did the Bears do? I don't pay attention to the Bears.
Do you think Caleb will be an all-time bust? He almost has to be, since the Bears are cosmically disallowed to have a good quarterback.
You guys are drafting a QB.
We won't have to if either of the AOC's work out. I feel like it's either going to be a trade up for McCarthy or a trade back for Penix.
Good idea. I hope my teams fare better in the future.
reply
It's going to be a tough season for the Jets with Rodgers running for VP.

I think this year's season ending injury will be during a pre season game, so I don't see an issue.
reply
At least you think he'll make it through OTA's. We've got a barely used Gardner Minshew you could trade a couple of firsts for.
reply
I am currently checking the MLB schedule for when the Blue Jays face the Mets
reply
Not until September unfortunately.
reply
I hope so as well
reply
love the idea
reply
Any games you are targeting?
reply
Wow! Did you see that Aaron Donald retired?
Also, the Vikings traded for the 23rd pick and now have two firsts. It seems like they're stocking up to move into one of those higher draft spots.
