Visited the zoo with my son and was surprised to learn that:

Which got me thinking about other countries

Singapore - Little Red Dot
Australia - The Land Down Under
Japan - The Land of the Rising Sun
Thailand - The Land of Smiles
Finland - The Land of a Thousand Lakes

So is your country known by a particular moniker? You can see that my world geography is frightfully lacking. More importantly, do you identify with the moniker?

Portugal: The country that can neither govern itself nor be governed
Napoleão Bonaparte

reply

It reminds me of Thailand. It’s the only Southeast Asian country that has never been colonised.

Also you know everything!

reply

I know a bit about this. The Portuguese were the first Europeans to arrive in Thailand, and they realized that it was impossible to colonize them, so they made friends instead. That friendship has lasted for 5 centuries. On the left bank of the Chao Phraya, in the most noble area of Bangkok, stands the oldest embassy, a visible fruit of this long-standing friendship.

reply

Thanks for making me smart.

Is it true that in Portugal every dish with cod is soul food? Haha

reply

I don't know about the soul, but I can tell you that there are hundreds of recipes with cod. It is undoubtedly one of the most appreciated dishes.

reply

I love myself cod!

reply

Just out of curiosity, what's your favorite codfish dish? Mine is: (I won't translate the name because it sounds weird in English)

Bismark would say this about Spain

I am firmly convinced that Spain is the strongest country of the world. Century after century trying to destroy herself and still no success.“

About Portugal, used to be called Lusitania. Cames from Lucis meaning Ligth..

reply

There's one thing I have to agree with Bismarck, we're just like the Spanish when it comes to getting on each other's nerves.

reply

I think we call ourselves The Great White North. I could be wrong though. But many around the world call us The People's Republic of Canada.

reply

As in because a lot of Chinese citizens migrate over to Canada?

reply

As in we have ourselves a prime minister in Justin Trudeau who wants to be like Supreme Leader Xi.

reply

South Africa - The Rainbow Nation - because we're a host of different areas/tribes/people that where formed into one country, and ended up with 11 different languages and a bunch of people who just had to learn to get along

reply

My South African friend will stop over in Singapore next month, I can’t wait to say this fun fact with her!

India is known for the 'land of diversity' because we have various types of food, speak different languages, celebrate different festivals, and practise different religions and traditions.

India is also known as 'the land of mysteries' for its various enigmatic natural phenomena or eccentricities associated with its religions and culture.

As the land of spirituality: India is known for its deep spiritual and philosophical traditions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. It's a destination for many spiritual seekers.

India is also depicted as the Land of Yoga and Ayurveda.

As the Land of Cuisine: Indian cuisine is renowned globally for its variety and flavors, with each region having its own distinct culinary traditions.

India is also referred as Arya Varta, Tenjiku, Bharat, Hindustan, and Al-Hind. Bharat, being the most famous now, comes from 'Bharata,' the Sanskrit word. It refers to 'Agni' (fire).

Countries are an obsolete term.
Countries doesn't exist. Are imaginary boundaries.
You better call it "tribes". Tribes have own regional culture and doesn't belong to any political bond.
