More bad news for New York City. Commercial real estate vacancies, rent controlled apartments loan defaults, and now this. The story is getting worse by the day. Subway crime is publicised by news networks every day.

crazy. was just in Japan the subways are all very safe even late at night. people leave their bikes out unlocked in major cities. Huge crowds in train stations yet no need to lock up merchandise. This is despite a very stagnant economy.

After 9/11, this mall really became a gathering place. All the subway lines converge at that spot. I spent many mornings drinking my coffee there. It's a big deal that it's shutting down.

"The rate of subtenant vacancies is at an all-time high," Westfield wrote in a legal filing. "Few businesses want to open and operate a store where their employees and customers regularly would experience theft, property damage, bodily harm, or threats."
Workers and subway riders told Eyewitness News that the biggest concern is the homeless population that congregates at the Fulton Center.

It is sad to see. I like giving NYC shit, but the decline of a once great prosperous city is deeply tragic.

I used to visit for work once a year. Haven't been since 2019 but have heard how bad it is. It is sad and frankly maddening what has been done to NYC.

I'm thinking about your post from yesterday about when predictions don't pan out. I predict NYC will survive these horrible leftist state and city governments. It's happened before (1970s,early 1990s) and the pendulum seems to swing back faster than other places. Maybe I'll be proven wrong this time.

It's interesting you mention that. I was just speculating with my wife that we might be heading for another Guardian Angels situation.

Yep. A conservative republican mayor will ride into town soon.

Alvin Bragg is probably the biggest problem.

He's bad, but so is the mayor, the city council, and the governor
Um crime pays?
