I suspect when we get above a certain price threshold most people will be looking for places to get Bitcoin.

Most crypto exchanges will be locked down and not accepting users. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe even Bitcoin ones.

One of the last places to come will be Stacker News.

In anticipation of this I’m curious how many SN accts do you have and would you sell them during the craze of a bull run?

Having multiple accounts is lame. And selling them is even more lame. (except devs testing stuff)

become one with the un-account-able

@k00b I suggest to charge a fee for all dormant accounts that in 1 month d;dn't post anything. For even more dormant, like 3 or 6 months disable them and if they try to reactivate charge them a higher fee. https://i.postimg.cc/yNmVT4xg/darth-make-them-pay.png

reply

What if someone like @lynaldencontact comes back? You don’t want someone taking her name?

reply

No. Why somebody should take others accounts? That is like selling your soul.

reply

Nah, this would be a waste of dev time. It's easy to circumvent

This is a hard problem to solve and requires active surveillance, human (expensive) or automated (unreliable)

I'm not saying @k00b and the devs shouldn't do anything. With time the database will be littered with spam accounts so they have to be prepared to deal with this problem when the time comes

reply

I respectfully disagree with charging and disabling accounts.

reply

oh I understand now, name squatting is the game

reply

One of the many other reasons yes.

reply

I’m not sure what’s more surprising everyone only having 1 account. (Which is really inspiring to think most stackers are very humble bitcoiners.)

Or

Some stackers have 10+ sn accts?

🤔

reply

Maybe some shitcoiners are messing around and passing the sats from one acc to another. They zap each others making false traffic sometimes. Take a look into weekly or monthly stats and you could see those moves.

reply

It's crazy thing to do so. Proof of Work is the way.

reply

If you are reading this, you are the single account I do not control. If you've ever wondered whether or not you are in the Truman show, this is your hint.

reply

why people would pay for the account - not like they can buy the POW? 🧐

reply

Darth tried doing this a couple years back 🤣 but he didn’t charge them.

reply

I didn't want to sell my account. That was very clear. I wanted somebody to take care of my cowboy hat in my absence. that's totally different.

Please do not spread misleading info. Here was my request: #190866

reply

Hey can’t take a joke? 🤣

reply

Sure I can take. But haters are watching and will use your words instead of real info.

When I was developing the login feature on my SN native client I created many accounts, 50~60, give or take so I can say I own that many 😅. Most are dormant though but I sill use some for testing or debugging the app

I also own a few (less than 50 😄) I log in regularly to have some fun

I'd probably sell a couple during a Bull run

reply

🤯

reply

I'm a programmer. I automate things so it wasn't that hard 😅

reply

Two,

I use one as wallet.

Other one for zapping, commenting & posting!

reply

Shitcoiners will come in hoards. Fuck them.

reply

Is that even possible?

Wouldn't that reveal someones secret key for Lightning node???

reply

I believe you can attach an email to an sn acct and then remove the other login?

reply

Shocked people would have 10+ accounts. Fibbonacci or pi or the golden ratio should be used to exponentially punish brigaders. I can see having multiples for specific purposes, like a business, but I would feel terrible if I used them to zap each other and game the system. Eliminate Brigaders w/ Extreme Prejudice IMO

reply

1 is enough

I just have one, why I should have more than one account?

reply

One is enough I think.

reply

Just one

I do have an old account that is no longer being used.

reply

how would selling an account work is the idea to sell an account like a open dime take my stack, but the sats never moved?

reply

Maybe ~agora knows.

reply

I'm not sure. I think I have a couple that were generated from failed log-in attempts early on, but nothing I could sell.

reply

Failed / lost / mistake accounts doesn't count. I think Car is asking about active accounts not failures.

reply

Yes active accts

reply

I think so too. One caveat to your "multiple accounts are for losers" position would be an account generated for a discrete accounting reason, like the accounts that have been made to manage survivor pool funds.

reply

Cheaters must pay.

reply

Don't forget where we are. On SN not on fucking reddit

reply

all of them

reply

I was wondering when someone was going to post a poll like this.

reply

Been thinking about it for quite some time. If a massive influx of users come, could the SN team sustain that kind of growth overnight?
