This is a ranking of Lightning Network entities that we put together. It's different from amboss.space and other Lightning "explorers" because it attempts to identify the "entities" behind the nodes. The goal is to create something that is entertaining and also educational for "normies" who are interested in the Lightning Network but might be bewildered by the complexity.

needs more images of big rocks plz

You can get in a lot of trouble for that --

Oh, wait, you said "rocks."

Never mind.

Looking good! Any way to incorporate the node reputation?

The concept of entities vs. nodes is (I think) very confusing for newbies when they try to understand the Lightning Network. So we're actually (so far) trying to "abstract away" the idea of "nodes" -- You can see the top of the list is LnBig, and we just note the number of channels.... We don't expose the individual nodes in the interface yet. (Maybe we should do that....).....

reply

It is a good idea.

@megalithic, let me know if you would like to add additional node attributes to show in your page. I'm create a lot of attributes based on capacity/channel and LN graph.

I've started work on grouping nodes based on type - exchange, routing, LSP. let me know if you would like to share notes there

I'm not familiar with the concept of 'entities'. Transparency is always the best way forward. Is there any other website that does what you are doing?

reply

There might be a better word than "entities" -- maybe we could say "owners". The point is, who actually owns and runs the node or a group of related nodes.....

reply

Can you find out who owns the nodes of those running in Amazon data centers, for example?

reply

We're only trying to identify "entities" or "owners" of nodes who are making some attempt to publicly identify themselves. We're not trying to "out" node operators who are trying to stay anonymous.

reply

😅 Of course! Just out of curiosity, do you know the ratio of anonymous to known entities?

reply

I think that would be impossible to determine without somehow counting the number of entities or owners of all the "little" nodes -- which itself would likely be impossible.....

You can see the "ranking criteria" at the bottom of the page... which sort of explains the thinking... https://megalith.apezdev.com/power_list

We're also trying a very human "editorial" approach where we actually did some research and wrote some commentary on each entity -- again, we are aiming for something that can be grokked by someone new to the Lightning Network. I think that newbies look at something like 1ML or Amboss, and they are just overwhelmed by the complexity....

reply

This is fantastic! Thanks for putting it together. I espeically enjoyed the on-point entity descriptions. A few made me lol - e.g. " To grab the attention of slow-witted "normies", OKX sponsors multiple sports celebrities, including F1 drivers, snowboarders, and football players."

Let us know if you have any suggestions for this!

This is awesome and extremely aligned with our objectives to better understand and serve the lightning network. How are you deciding which categories to create? Or, are you going with a tagging approach for nodes with different features? How often do you you plan to revisit the results to add/remove categories?
