Insufficient Sleep In Every US County 2019

It’s estimated that sleep insufficiency affects almost 1/3 of American adults.
The map below created by Bo McCready uses data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, a national survey covering a variety of health factors. The survey defines insufficient sleep, and darker blue represents a lower percentage reporting insufficient sleep.
On the other hand, I’m usually surprised to hear how people in other countries typically sleep 7-8 hours every night haha

One thing I hate about the Eastern and Central time zones is how late you have to stay up if you want to watch live sports. I'm not surprised that's where people don't get enough sleep.

It's ironic how sports, while entertaining, can also be a reason for sleep deprivation. Do you have any idea what percentage of the population follows sports religiously? What's more, in the United States, major sports are scheduled in a way that ensures only one is broadcasted at a time, avoiding overlap. This isn't the case in Europe.

I'm not sure. The NBA is the worst culprit when it comes to extremely late broadcasts and I think there are usually a million or so viewers for regular season games.

Seriously. There was a wrestling PPV on Sunday night, and I was an utter zombie on Monday morning.

It could also be like the undisciplined person says, where major sports are broadcasted very late and people stay up to watch them.

wait, this would have the opposite effect, no?
aren’t prime-time games held at like 1pm in hawaii?
reply
I don't know. Do you think that being a more touristy state with a lot of entertainment could affect the sleep of Hawaiians?

maybe the tourism has something to do with it, but i don’t think hawaii is really known for late night entertainment.

I know for a fact I don’t get enough sleep. I try to fix it but it’s challenging

Do you live in a sleep-deprived county? Or are you one of the few who bucks the trend?
reply
It’s hard to tell for sure by looking at the map, but it appears my county is a light blue color. So I guess I am atypical for my area
