I'm considering hosting contests as a way to drive interest and engagement to ~lol and ~conspiracy.
There are a few repeating contest on SN, and some one-offs, but @kr commented that "contests seem like an underexplored idea for territory owners" and it seems like it to me too.
Looks like @sn used to have generic meme contests before I was here (?)
I am not going to duplicate, but am I correct no one is doing a generic meme contest right now, just the bitcoin one? The other idea I have is a joke contest in ~lol.
Have you hosted a contest, or do you? Was/is it successful? What have you tried that has not worked? What works best?
What would you like to see in a contest? What kind of contest would inspire you to participate? (in any territory)
How many sats would it take to incentivize you? Would you prefer a flat amount or a percentage of the cut?
Ideas appreciated
We have run pools and pick 'em bounties in the sports territory. Very effective.

Pools? Curious how that works.

Our biggest pool was the NFL survivor pool. You can check out how it worked by looked at the bio of @artistformerlyknownasNFLsurvivor

I think you're right. I toyed with idea of a cat meme contest for my dogs and cats territory.

Potential downsides, there may be solutions to these that I don't know, I'm pretty new:
  • visibility. If it doesn't stay in hot or top, it tends to disappear.
  • There is no way to subscribe to a repeating series. There are repeating threads that I know exist but that I can't find because I can't remember the exact name, and don't know what day they happen.
  • A dud contest might be worse than none at all.
  • Might take significant time for some kinds of contest, but not get many participants. I assume that's what happened on the informal, unpromised prize design contest where only three western movie poster memes were posted (I posted two of them, and I never heard back.)

A couple suggestions: pin your contest at the top of your territory and promote it in the Saloon. Just a post saying hey guys I am running this contest, you can win some sats if you are interested in joining. Doesn't have to be seen as spammy. People appreciate a heads up to something that provides them value.

Great suggestions, thank you

They can be take up a decent amount of time. I recommend brainstorming how to run your contests with the community before running them.

Hey, thanks for mentioning ~Design, our ODCs and FUCs are not competitions, are challenges, personal challenges if you like, with a totally different approach. As OpenDesign initiative, it will stay and continue being that way. A way to contribute in a V4V manner, without knowing if your work is going to be appreciated or not. So whatever you posted there is at the service and use of the community and whoever would like to use it. If your work provides no value, you'll get no value back.
Anyhow, there has been some trial with the weekly Monday Muse bounty contest. (just released another -maybe last- one just now!) Haven't seen much participation, one had to be cancelled for lack of creativity! Maybe the reward amount is too low so quality of the submissions equals to it? But if higher should then, a much stricter criterion to evaluate ideas and required PoW be applied?

I'm on board with these ideas, count me in!

I was thinking about a contest (or maybe instead just an ongoing bounty payout) for short writeups on UFO cases/events etc. Maybe come up with a simple formatting and create an archive here on SN backed by proof-of-work.
Contest for best original alien-bitcoin gif/meme also comes to mind.

Great ideas... Feel free to spearhead that if you like, or I'll collaborate, or take that idea, just lmk

A special features just for event. We have now the "Pin Post". If we added a new features in each territory to make it more visibility to the user. I have few suggestion.
• Since boosting a post is guaranteed for more views, why not boost every event? But the question is, not some one can boost their post? So, to make it possible.. why not appoint someone or a group of people responsible in posting the said event. Example, i have event in my mind but since i lack of SATs to boost it, i ask those appointed people to post my event. Since Zapping SATs is directly go to someone that post.. I hope SN add a features called ZAP History, this may resolve.
• To stand more a posted event, why not make it announce through out all teritory, Like " a new event in Books and Articles has started, go view for more information"
• Or just a specific teritory just for event, bounties and poll.
Thanks for reading

I like the idea of having a territory announcement available, beyond pinning items. Thanks
