A while back I was looking for a Clip to see if Mark Messier ever fought then I came across this clip of him knocking Mike Modano out cold with a hit. (Clean? dirty?)
Then yesterday I was watching a video about Lindross and saw how much of a monster he was but yet got owned by Scott Stevens which ended his Career pretty much.
Hockey seems soft compared what these guys did in the 90s

I cannot corroborate, but I heard he wears a Messier jersey (Oilers of course- Rangers would be a bridge too far) while scrolling SN daily.

As a kid I was huge Messier fan. I liked his name and all the points he would score. It seem like he was up there with Wayne. I never knew he was nasty as well. Fights hits. Growing up I had a soft spot for the rangers I always liked their players.

I was telling Siggy the other day that I had an Oilers Messier jersey when I was a kid that my uncle who lives in Alberta sent me. That's I how I discovered his distaste for Messier.

Head shot on Modano that knocked him out and then the EMT guys dropped him trying to load him into an ambulance. It was a bad scene all around. Definitely would have been a dirty hit these days, back then I am not sure.

I think this is definitely considered a dirty hit now but back then maybe not.
I would agree the game is softer but protecting guys from hits to the head is probably a good thing.
