49ers are hiring Brandon Staley in a prominent role, possibly assistant head coach. Which hopefully means "guy that stands beside Shanahan and says stuff that Kyle ignores."
Kyle only needs one thing in an assistant coach. A guy to remind him that he has the best running back in the league and stop passing 8 times in a row out of empty sets.

Assistant head coach means he automatically gets promoted to head coach if something happens to Shanahan. That's not ideal.

Staley is being paid almost nothing because the chargers are still paying him 4 million dollars

Staley did well his one year in NFL as a DC. I am guessing by going with a first time play caller at DC they wanted a veteran around to support and maybe take over if it goes awry.
I don't mind the hire. The post was more of a long standing joke about Staley's ability to blow games that we were talking about all season.
Who do you think the 49ers should target in the draft?
