Fleetwood Mac - The ChainFleetwood Mac - The Chain
To celebrate the opening weekend of the F1 season here's the song that is synonymous with the F1 coverage in the UK for 30 something years.
view on www.youtube.comThat middle of the song bass beat then guitar riff means only one thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z-dJ35fOiM
Didn’t ‘man in a hat’ Jamiroquai do it’s replacement theme?
He did, after the BBC lost the rights to ITV in '97. It's an almost impossible act to follow. In 2009 BBC won the rights back and "The Chain" was reinstalled and when coverage moved over to Channel 4 in 2016, they kept "The Chain" as well. Smart move This music is Formula One. It is so ingrained in to the psyche of a nation, to change it you're on to a loser
I did not expect to find myself in an F1 history lesson today. The places we go and the topics we discuss. You lot are the best. 👊
Welcome to SN lol
🤣. We found ourselves down an Avril Lavigne conspiracy theory the other day. The wild west is wild. 🤠
Hold on to your hat at all times!
Sundays without Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’ , Murray Walker and James Hunt falling out, just feel wrong…
Them were the days, they were one of the best double acts on TV. You knew as soon as Murray said "he's only got three more corners to go to win the race" you knew they'd run out of petrol or breakdown
‘There's nothing actually wrong with the car except that it's on fire..’
‘He only has laps 48,49,50,51,52 to go…’
His father was a motorsport journalist and they were apparently very close. Murray was a tank commander after landing at Normandy and was making his way through France. Stopping at a refueling point he found his Dad there who had taken a job as a war correspondent to see how his son was getting on!
Fleetwood Macs the chain is an incredible track. I only recently (a year or so ago) became aware that Evanescence had done a cover of it for the gears of war franchise (no idea how I missed it because I've played all those games). So here's Amy Lees Vocals doing the chain https://youtu.be/M2kgcpZX42w?si=jgrfos1U99TWMPBF
And our boy Harry Styles did this cracking version on the live lounge
view on www.youtube.comOoooo that is good. Kid done good, as they say.
I got one more version of this, but more meat to it. A little heavier but somehow has a lot to chew on.
view on youtu.beF'ing superb Thanks for sharing that beauty
Yeah I dunno what it is about this version but it might be my favourite. His vocals give it so much grit, the guitar harmonies at the beginning were 🤌 they stick quite close to the original but with (and I've got no other way to describe it) just more meat on the bone.
Yeah, like you say, they add more meat to the song but without going over the top and losing it to a whole load of distortion, its very well produced. The big riff in the middle is so well done, on his knees, hair going, proper rocking out. It's going on the playlist 😁
Pleasure to have been of service.
And I completely agree, he is killing it. It's clear they're all having an absolute blast whilst doing this track. And when musicians are enjoying themselves, I think you can hear the difference between that and going through the motions.
I approve! Awesome rendition. If I close my eyes it feel like I could back in some dark, grungy rock club with very sticky floors, drinking watery lager from a plastic pint glass 🎸🍺😂
Wow, never heard that before, cool. Massive, operatic feel
It's a very different feeling to the track. Almost a darker feeling to it, kinda ominous I'm some way. But still kinda cool.
Sorry for not getting back to everyone yet. I will do so when I get in, not got a lot of signal where I am.
Looking forward to listening to all these tracks. 👊
This is my current situation 😉

Very nice, nothing like escaping to the coast. Have a good weekend away. Looks like its stop raining
It's been forecast rain all day and I saw a few clouds that threatened it, but for the most part, it was clear blue skies the whole way round. (Round the coastal path)
and a pint at the end of the path, nice
Sadly... That wasn't the end, that was maybe kilometer 18 of 28 🤣🤣 kinda half way-ish. But when you find a watering hole on the cliff side, it'd be rude not to stop in ofcourse.
Haha, never pass up the chance of a quick pint, you'd earnt it by then. It would have been rude not to. Plus the view, you want to stop and enjoy it. Think of the pint as an offering to the gods of good weather and a nice walk
I think I appeased them, they were kind to us.
Nice view! Hope you're having a great weekend
I am, the wife plugged a postcode into my satnav and said drive us there... And now we're on a weekend away by the coast. She's good she is.
Awesome. Enjoy your weekend with the lovely Mrs NME!

When in Rome ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (I'm not actually in Rome... But you get the idea 🤣).
You too Roll enjoy yourself 👊
Shout out to @0357218382 who posted this Chicago cover #443379 with Passenger, The Once and Stu Larson. It inspired me to look up The Once band and I discovered this cover of the classic Queen song You're my best friend. Thanks 0357, looking forward to discovering more of their music.
view on www.youtube.comYou're my best friend was always a really nice song... But they way they play it makes it sound really sweet. It's lovely.
I also really love that you've found (and shared) this via another stackers recommendation.
Wow, that's fantastic. Love a bit of banjo picking and she's got a great voice.
Most epic Moby cover ever
view on youtu.beThis is 🔥 there's something about that really simple bom, clap marching sound that really just appeals to me.
Tantric - Breakdown
view on www.youtube.comThat guitar riff is really cool, couldn't tell if it was done with tapping or not. But it sounded really intricate and fun.
I've never heard of this band but it seems like the kinda band I should have come across as they fit firmly into my normal genres. Almost Tool-esq. Sounds great.
When DotNet asks about my favourite gig... It reminds me of one of the best in the business. Iron Maiden.
Not my favourite but a great song. Top bloke Bruce Dickinson…indeed I would be happy for any child of mine to accompany him to a slaughter. And especially if it put Cliff Richard’s nose out of joint for the Christmas No1
He owns and flies airplanes, he can do no wrong in my book. & a top class fencer (not garden fencing) who knew
I don’t know about the fencing…. He is only going up in my estimation!
Bruce by all accounts is an absolute genuine dude. Really decent to people aswell. It's a quality some artists are lacking these days.
🤣🤣 that's a helluva explanation.
I'd find it hard to pick a favourite but for me fear of the dark just gives me nostalgia from being in that crowd and feeling that wall of noise for the woahoah bits.
Favourite wise, hallowed by thy name, fear of the dark, dance of death (super underrated in my opinion) wildest dreams, iron maiden, number of the beast, the trooper, the clairvoyant (also super underrated) aces high, run to the hills... At this point... Just throw a dart at a list of any of their songs and I could make a decent case for that to be one of my favourites. 🤣
Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills
view on www.youtube.comTaken from Iron Maiden's 3rd studio album The Number Of The Beast released in 1982, which featured the singles "Run To The Hills" & "The Number Of The Beast"
White man came across the sea | He brought us pain and misery He killed our tribes, he killed our creed | He took our game for his own need We fought him hard, we fought him well | Out on the plains we gave him hell But many came, too much for Cree | Oh, will we ever be set free?
Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes | Galloping hard on the plains Chasing the redskins back to their holes | Fighting them at their own game Murder for freedom, the stab in the back | Women and children are cowards, attack
Run to the hills, run for your lives
Soldier blue in the barren wastes | Hunting and killing's their game Raping the women and wasting the men | The only good Indians are tame Selling them whiskey and taking their gold | Enslaving the young and destroying the old

That was really cool Roll. Loved that reggae sound, super chill for a weekend. 👊
