Let's say

[I install a session messenger or a mobile Bitcoin wallet][1]

on a non-degoogled phone with Android 11 manually from an apk package. Does google know about it if the app is not in Play Store? Does google know about it when the app is offered in Play Store?

I think yes in the latter case, but I'm not so sure about the former.

If google will know about your apps, then you device is not "degoogled"...
You install those apks from a github repo, so how do you think google will know what you did install if you do not use any google services on that device?

Use Obtainium for installing / updating apps directly from source

My phone is not-degoogled, i.e. it is just a standard normie phone with Android. I use google services on that device as it seems impossible to uninstall some of them without rooting the phone. And I use Google Play store too.

Thanks a lot. I like Obainium - it is a way better solution than F-droid. Would like to have something similar on the desktop that would look for me for an rss feed on github of my favourite apps.
