What should one focus on, especially a novice?

What, in your opinion, is more important to understand? The way Bitcoin works, or what Bitcoin offers? "Both"! Doesn't count.

I know that both are important, but what holds the edge? Of course, that's somewhat situationally dependent, too, however:

I think that understanding how Bitcoin works, gives one the edge in everyday and personal use, but understanding the why to Bitcoin, gives one the edge in debates, fending off critics and orange-pilling no-coiners.

If you'd have to choose something to start with, what would you choose?

I am a novice myself, but yesterday I signed up my Grandson to Coinbase and sent him $30 in Bitcoin. I showed him all the other coins offered there, explained stable coins to him, how to buy low and sell high, but mostly just leave it there and watch it if he wants or not. He is 18 and it was his first act as an 'adult'. It was a lot of fun and he seemed to catch on pretty easily. He and his friends seem to have no clue about Bitcoin or Crypto oddly. I just made it as easy as possible. I am not sure if that was a good way to go about it, but its about all I can do. My husband is the techie guy and has a better grasp.

Well the wisdom is for these kids, is if it isn't easy I'm not going to do it. Stick the toe in the water is my philosophy, if its good then maybe they will jump in and want to learn more, that's as much as I can do, and is pretty much my philosophy with most things, its up to people to want something, the old adage, "you can lead a horse to water" holds.

Boy are equally important IMO. As with a novice who wants to learn how to drive, if you don't let him drive, he won't learn. The same applies to Bitcoin. If someone comes to know why to, let him do how to Bitcoin. Both are quintessential.

Most people don't care and don't even need to know much about how it works, they need to know what bitcoin offers, why they need bitcoin and what it solves for them and also how to approach it and think about it, not expecting to get rich quick and think as savings for the future.

I'm going to say it depends on your purposes and interests.

I'm here to support the best parallel institution available. That leads me to be slightly more interested in what Bitcoin offers. Of course, it's hard to learn much about what Bitcoin offers without learning how it works.

Learn whatever enables you to do what you're hoping to do.

How Bitcoin works - because personally, this shows me what it offers.

In hindsight, I think learning how to confidently generate a truly random seed phrase by yourself is a good way to start learning the fundamentals.
