I'm thinking of directing a part of my stack towards self development, or in other words: A study.
Not now, not tomorrow, but there'll be a time that I'll opt to do something with the money; a part of which I'd like to put towards a study which provides value beyond the monetary part- it'll has to bring something to the table on a personal and societal-level, too.
The only question is: what fields / jobs qualify for the above (in your opinion)?
What will be relevant / be of use in, say, 10 - 20 years from now?
There was a talk a couple years ago about this and they concluded the best "investment" is educating girls. Makes sense to me, and empowering women with Bitcoin goes hand in hand.

... Educating girls in regards to Bitcoin?..

Apart from bitcoin, I'd say space would be my top choice. New land and resources

What path could I take to get into Bitcoin specifically in an academic way?

Well personally I like working on making use of micropayments. I guess it depends on your skills and interests. Maybe it could be on the hardware side and doing some mining. Maybe you could build a guide on using bitcoin to buy real estate. Maybe you care about custody of bitcoin. Maybe you care about scaling bitcoin and could work on lightning factories or other L2 ideas.
