So, it's no secret that we (europoors) are are fucc for next winter.

And there are two things: Energy is already now getting very expensive. The winter might become really expensive. The second thing is just simply the raw mass of gas. If the energy is out it is out - now matter how much people would be willing to pay.

So what can I do next winter?

I already plan on turning off my fridge. I've already done this in the last years because it feels really down to nature and zen and stuff. Lot's of people here do that and put their fridge stuff on their balcony or garden - it's also good for nature and saving money. This year it might be a necessity to do so for many people. -> more electricity left for heating.

Just 2 degrees cooler room temperature can have a huge impact on energy. I don't know how much I can actually do this.

Back when the electricity in Texas (Many Texans here, I think πŸ‘‹) I saw a cool video of a guy with a huge pot with wheels maybe 6ft high or something heating up the pot on a campfire in the garden an bathing in there πŸ˜‚. He even got the whole pot to boiling and put it in his living room for heating. I think may southern people have pots like this because the cook for everyone after church?? Anyway, can I do this with a 20L pot? Or is the energy from this irrelevant?

Other ideas for saving energy? Maybe a wall-rug? I thought about getting a Jackery powerbank + portable solar panels - but they're like 9m sats which is too expensive.

Lol your pov on southerners. I don't know anyone personally with giant pots on wheels.

You can heat all kinds of stuff on a campfire and bring it inside. Maybe people heat water or rocks when they're camping and bring them in their tents/sleeping bags.

Haha, now that you say it it sounds a little too clichΓ© pick-up-lifestyle to be true xD

Depending on your house conditions and how much sun you get, maybe something like this could be an option:

Miners are relatively cheap today. Stock up on some s9. Silicon chips are basically 100% efficient at translating electricity to heat.

Put a miner in every room, wear ear plugs, and enjoy Bitcoin's evergreen heating subsidy program.

I'm using S9's to heat my house during the winter. One of each floor. It works well. Too well. It gets warm πŸ˜‚

Have the shower head as close to your body as possible because the water cools down as soon as it leaves the shower head. Try sitting down in the shower for example, the water is basically cold by the time it hits you. So to save on energy, get a detachable shower head on a hose, so you can get it as close to the body as possible so you dont have to turn the temperature up as much. This is just a small tip that wont make the biggest difference on its own, but if you combine it with other small tips it ads up in the end.
