Everything that can go wrong is going wrong for the German state. In 2023, undeclared work rose to 10.7% of gross domestic product, which amounts to around 423 billion euros. Not least the 12% increase in social welfare at the beginning of the year creates massive incentives to switch to the black market, in addition to the far too high fiscal burden on citizens. Germany needs libertarian forms, free markets and, above all, a much smaller state, which has now turned into a bureaucratic monster that stifles any private initiative, more urgently than ever. On top of this comes the European Union, with its growing bureaucracy, which also acts like a sinker.

I agree with it all but, just wondering, how do they know the figures if it's undeclared?

The customs authorities usually proceed as follows: random samples are carried out quantitatively, i.e. one random sample per 100 businesses, and then the total is extrapolated
