I personally don't like the referrals, even if I share the links, I would take my "referrals" out of it - it feels not right getting any stats from others' work, or even worse, others might think that I invite them because I would "profit" from it.

I've already thought about what you're saying and I agree. But I'll feel comfortable if I know that whoever clicks on the referral link knows what they're doing. I didn't register with a referral link on sn, so I don't know if the new user is informed at the time of registration. It's a good question for @sn.

The intent isn't to hide it. We agree they need to be rethought though.

I would like to be able to disable it (I don't know if that's possible already).
Also, I think that the referral should be as a GET parameter in the URL instead of the way it is done now. There shouldn't be different URLs pointing to the same resource. For example: #429848
