Best comedy overall, and what makes it great?

dumb and dumber!

Came here to say that too! It's so joyfully stupid, makes you feel good to be alive.

Although admittedly the women in my life have not had the same reaction.

Simply the GOAT of comedy. You can't make movies like this anymore...

One of my all time favorites too :D

Tom Cruise really surprised me in that one. What a weird and ridiculous character to play and he nailed it. The stupid huge hands and dancing was his request too:

‘Look, I’d love to play this character, but I want to have fat hands and I’m gonna dance.'

I imagine producers were like "odd request, but sure let's roll with it".

reply

Yes, I kept asking myself if that was Tom Cruise but kept doubting myself because it couldn't have been. Eventually I realized that it was indeed Tom Cruise, which made the character even funnier. On top of fat fingers, I think he wore a fat suit in order to play Les too. Talk about sacrificing your handsome and fit image to portray a character.

Les Grossman was just amazing!

I must have seen Brüno 20 times and I'm still shocked and amazed each time.

Watching it in the movie theater was best - everyone was audibly reacting. The audience is hit relentlessly by a body blow of gags, outrageousness and disbelief.

"Here's who you've been waiting for - Ha-rri-son Ford"
"Fuck off"
