Given how many words in English are of Greek origin, I was fascinated by the trials and tribulations of these mythical Greek gods, as it may show how this ancient civilisation impacted not just language, but also the founding of modern society.
Never knew that Hercules committed suicide
Agreed! While reading this it was crazy how strong a "civilizing" impact the Greeks had on their neighbors and still have today. In the introduction to my edition of Meditations, the author quotes a poet named Horace, "Conquered Greece was the true conqueror", referring to their influence on Roman thought and culture.
