Once you figure out how something works, then learn how to simplify it - when you can simplify it without affecting the "performance" ( e.g. with fewer tools or less setups ), it means you really understand it.
doing more with less is the way.
I find teaching something to someone else can really solidify that in your own practice. And you need to understand it to teach it effectively.

indeed, if one can teach something well, that also means you have a good understand of whatever you are teaching:)
