pull down to refresh

49 days of being with the cowboy hat. This is written in anticipation that I will make it to my 50th.
50 is a nice round number. Half of a hundred. The passing grade on exams. While I know I have a long way to go, it reminds me of how far I have come.
First, some paradoxical advice. Don’t center “stacking sats” as the be-all and end-all of your engagement here. I know, it contradicts my title but trust me, I know what I’m saying. And not from reading @siggy47’s post either. Though I recommend you read it and get some inspiration: #184545
So, Sensei, I don’t get it, you ask. If you don’t ask me to care about sats, what then should I care about?
Well this is the modus operandi that works for me. Maybe it will work for you too.
  1. Post to declutter
I have been wanting to do this for the longest time and finally got around to doing it yesterday. I posted a photo I had taken on my Malacca trip many years ago on ~photography. I don’t know why I took so long. Fear of the unknown? Fear of rejection?
Anyway, my objective was actually to declutter my digital life. After posting that photo, I promptly deleted it on my phone. And a few others as well. It’s true. You just need to topple one to active a dominoes fall.
Back when ~Japan was still around, I religiously posted articles I had written for Japanese culture sites (don’t worry, they have now gone kaput!) several years ago. One article each day. I then proceeded to recycle that piece of paper on which that article was written on. My thick file feels lighter; so does my congested mind.
Best of all, the photo and my articles yielded some sats. Not a lot. But here’s the thing: I realise that everything I have got to share is worth something. Not a lot but not zilch either. I have what it takes to be successful - because I have a pool of resources inside me.
So post away, my Stackers. Fear nothing.
  1. Post to journal
I can’t remember the Stacker who brought it to our attention here. Let me know and I will link it in the comments. He taught me something that I have already been doing intuitively. He introduced me to Matthew Dicks who came up with the Homework for Life idea: https://matthewdicks.com/homework-for-life/
Basically, it means documenting a memorable story that happens each day.
You know what the best place for documenting these stories is?
Ya you guessed right. The Stacker Saloon!
This brings me back to my first point. Everything I own has value, even those run-of-the-mill, so-boring-it-cringes stories. Each story is an example of Value for Value - because Stackers assign meaning to it.
  1. Post to share
These days, I’m quite happy about forwarding some Stackers part of the zaps I earn from my articles. Don’t get me wrong. I’m still territorial about my zaps. No matter what, I ensure that I allocate myself at least 10% of the zaps given to me haha.
Anyway, I think it’s only fair that I spread the sats. Sometimes, Stackers ask me a question that I envision can be turned into a topic. Why don’t I turn it into a post, answer it thoroughly and pass my fellow Stacker some sats coupled with endorphins? Win-win situation.
I believe that you get what you give. The more questions I answer properly, the more questions I get asked. It’s a virtuous cycle. My muse never gets switched off. I no longer worry about writer’s block.
So that’s it. My joy of stacking sats. Declutter, journal & share. May you come up with your unique way of stacking sats.

I love these points.
Stacker News really is a community. Show a genuine interest in others and share your thoughts and interests with the community: the sats will take care of themselves.

SN has definitely helped me wean my independence off CrapGPT because I learnt that my raw, unpolished and uncensored thoughts are enough. This is incredibly empowering haha

I love commenting and zapping on SN, I had to go look at my cowboy hat and I can't believe I'm on a 70 days streak which I didn't know because I kept losing it before hand

In my country’s exams, that’s an A2 effort! Bravo!
Zapped you 108 sats, which is a reference to 108 heroes from The Story of Water Margin. Have fun with them!

I lost my hat today 😔 Tell me your secrets please
Edit: I got the hat again a second before I pressed enter on this post 😮

Hi! I know the pain of losing your cowboy hat
I read that we must zap at least 100 sats every day in order to keep our cowboy hat. I am not sure if this is still the case.
Embarrassing as it seems, I have a SN routine that enables me to zap people consistently throughout the day. I think it isn’t too difficult if I focus on zapping n replying to Stackers’ messages . Ofc I take profits too. That keeps me going! #393176

We are SN brothers from another mother haha. I worked at Paramount for a few years on films like A Quiet Place, Sonic, Mission Impossible, Bumblebee and then I moved over to the creative side and worked on Love and Monsters and the director of that film and I continued working together and I’ve moved into a producer role.
We did the first 4 out of 10 eps of a 200m dollar adventure show called Nautilus that’s like Pirates of the Caribbean and Indiana Jones had a baby and that’s coming out this year and now we’re pitching to 9 studios to get our next movie going God willing!

Fusing iconic movies to come out with something original must feel gratifying. Best of V4V. Good luck, buddy
