I think one feature that works very well on HackerNews is that the moderator oftentimes merge threads that are about the same thing.
For example, Currently there are two threads at the top about Binance new zero-fee initiative. At other times there are 3-4 threads about the same topic. It's noisy and creates
It would be great if a moderator could merge them. Not sure how that affects who gets the sats though. Maybe an even split? Maybe the moderator can set it at mergetime?
Another good feature is that duplicate links get auto-deleted.
My preferred approach would be to notify a user when posting that this topic has already been covered - using the title they choose to search existing posts.
IMO giving users better tools/signals to self-moderate >> moderation

I like that. Sometimes you end up in situations where two threads grow big and talk about the same thing. I'm not sure how often it would happen, though 🤔

I think there would be some additional complexity regarding sats-earned.
Who benefits is thread is merged? If earning is split, I would be incentivized to create duplicates of top performing posts. I suppose you could prorate, but there is prob some additional complexity

I like the model where users pay for their mistakes. Duplicate link posts cost more. Not sure how this would translate to discussion posts.

One related feature I’d like to see is the ability for users to delete posts.
The UN Hunger article I shared earlier today was deleted from the UN website, and now everyone clicking the top item on Stacker News is getting a 404 error.
Perhaps users should be able to delete posts on the condition that they give back all (or a portion) of the sats they earned from it.
