good point, i used to look at all these trade offs through a strictly financial lens, but am starting to appreciate that people have psychological needs that can’t easily be quantified too.

that being said, i think there is also a different cohort of people who get the same peace of mind from holding an asset nobody can seize.

Do you own your home?

I think there is one really good reason to buy a home, if you are still lucky enough to do so (which as we know many across the West can no longer do due to QE).
When you decide to retire, and you are no longer earning, you do not pay rent, as you own the land/home, it's paid for.  Excluding catastrophic events, whatever happens in markets, the economy, politics, it doesnt matter.
Buying a Home buys independence and Peace of mind...
