i believe this is why we will not see an invasion of taiwan and why china is locking down cities as test runs for economic collapse.
The second china invades taiwan they loose their biggest customer, the US. and they are using covid as a test for what happens when cities have zero economic activity as quiet war game events.

And by not invading, they keep the threat. They can always do fake outs and cause US leadership to worry about it.

There was a great thread, here on SN, about the COVID lockdowns a few months ago. One person's commented saying essentially the same thing.
Somehow this ties back to a crumbling reserve asset, and supply chain failures. I don’t have any specific evidence, I just don’t believe the CCP are this big of germaphobes or have the health/wellness of their people in their mind. #20077

i agree. i missed that thread and many of my contacts in international finance in Singapore have all said the same thing. China is using covid to test credit scores and financial collapse in small ways but each time saying it is because of covid.
  1. "How will the US react if we don't export to them" -> shit down a port and find out
  2. "Will a city riot if they run out of food and have no jobs?" -> shutdown Shanghai
  3. " Can we squash dissent?" -> red light dissenting persons covid passes
