Keys to what data? The encrypted data needs to exist somewhere. Once any entity had access to both the encrypted data, or the decryption key anywhere anytime, even if those are not the same entity, you cannot guarantee that data cannot ever be decrypted.

other than holding up in a court of law, i agree. that is my point. 

that is why i would use keys instead of copying the original.

why wouldn’t the nodes hold a read-key to the original, rather than a copy? That way the owner can at least revoke the read-key AKA tombstone their data on the node.
