Dear community, I'm currently facing a bit of an internal dilemma. I've been a Bitcoin-only advocate, but I find the whole idea of NFTs and games on the BTC chain not very appealing. I'm increasingly considering whether a "shitcoin" like Solana and its blockchain might be excellent for gamers and allow us Bitcoiners and our blockchain to be left in peace.
However, since I also enjoy playing games, I'm unsure if it would make sense to use Solana for gaming while sticking with Bitcoin for the rest. The new SOL2 for $450 is tempting, and my current phone will only last a few more months. How do you feel about this issue?
Work through this logic with me, you're gonna buy a phone made by a company to use company scrip (so its basically robux) to play a game because somehow that's better than Bitcoin?
Like look, game has gift card tokens you know it is what it is. If you wanted to integrate Bitcoin into the stack so that you can make payments in the game or purchases in the game, you could look at zeebeedee or satlantis https://satlantis.net/ for inspiration.
The phone part you still gotta explain because idk why you'd buy a specific phone for this.
Okay so the NFT part. The way that I think of NFTs as they relate to video games is the same way I think of other digital items in video games. If the game doesn't have a real world economy (trading between players) NFTs are immediately useless. Not all NFTs (digital items in a game) are valuable nor should be. They sort of just become valuable on accident usually (we're talking outside of NFTs here remember) because in the case of party hats for example, the company just stopped allowing accounts to buy more. The issuer is important not just anyone can make a copy if the author is not a name brand etc etc. I think the NFT crowd seriously over estimates how many digital assets from video games or trading cards from trading card games actually gain value. Its actually extremely few and always on accident.
Which means, no releasing NFT collections with some promise of profit, only promise in game use with no other utility. All that this accomplishes is for 1. Private servers to identify who bought what from the company and respect only company purchased digital content (which is a little silly, its a private server just make it an item drop lol) and 2. Allow for people to continue multi-player use of the game when the company goes bankrupt.
Some things this prevents a game from being able to integrate are things like digital items being dropped after player kills.
Okay, so the most responsible way to do this, would probably be to use taproot assets honestly: https://docs.lightning.engineering/the-lightning-network/taproot-assets/taproot-assets-on-lightning
I will again reiterate, the benefits of doing it this way are 99% unlikely to be seen, and the NFT scene in general is chalk full of grifting and scamming which makes its integration dangerous for a player base. If you're gonna do this in spite of the social risks and business risks, this is how you'd do it.
Oh and as for the phone, Get a pixel make sure to select carrier unlocked, and use the web installer for Graphene OS which is as simple as click click boom and live your life with less (but not no and feel free to ask about that) spying.
