Liquid is a mechanism / tool for taking real bitcoin to enable features that are unavailable on the Bitcoin main chain via taking custodial tradeoffs (although still very low risk).

It has different uses cases. Nevertheless, that doesn't stop people from criticizing it based on Bitcoin's use case.
